Thank you for this interview, David.  Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

When I was in high school I had the opportunity to take a course in creative writing as part of the requirements for English. The class was quite enjoyable and gave me the opportunity to work on some short stories. I was able to draw on that experience, even though it was some thirty plus years ago, when I began working on this book, which is actually my first published piece.

Think for Yourself

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

I have to say that for the most part on this project there have been relatively few frustrating aspects. Promotion seems to be a more daunting task than is the actual writing. When you can sit down and put your thoughts on paper, have it flow and make sense, then that can be a very rewarding feeling.

Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life?  Do you have support?

I am happily married and have a wonderful son, and fortunately we have been able to strike a workable balance between family, fun and work time. Everything in life has its place, and if you work hard enough and put enough time into all of the top priorities then balance can be achieved. For us, family, fun and work time are among our top priorities.

Think For Yourself

Can you tell us about your latest book and why you wrote it?

The book is called “Think For Yourself – The Importance of Maintaining Individuality and Freedom of Thought.” It is intended as a friendly reminder of some of the reasons why it is important to maintain one’s own perspective, and the relevance of self determination in our everyday lives. What compelled me to write about this subject was the realization that as a society there seems to be so many instances where people are being oversold on whatever concept, product, or idea that happens to be prevalent at any particular time. The book is meant to emphasize the importance of listening to one’s own inner voice when it comes to making important choices.

Can you share an excerpt?

“Individuals do matter. What you say and do does have an impact. Individuality also matters. The way in which you engage the world makes a difference. Each of us has a special talent or a unique way of looking at situations. That is what you the individual brings to the world. That is what you bring to the table in your business and personal relationships. The way in which you approach your work and the important aspects of your life is one of a kind”. (From chapter seven “Individuality.”)

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

For sitting down to put everything together, I like to use my home office. I can actually “write” or formulate the ideas almost anywhere. A digital recorder is never too far away, and there is always a pad and pen around to capture moments of inspiration. You have to capitalize on ideas when they are fresh in your mind. It is relatively easy to sit down in the office later when it is quiet, to collect the day’s thoughts and writings, and assemble them into the manuscript.

What is one thing about your book that makes it different from other books on the market?

The book is a friendly reminder of why it is important to take charge of one’s own circumstances. It’s written from the perspective of an ordinary individual and is based on real life observations. There is not an abundance of technical or clinical language. It’s a down to earth look at key topics from everyday life that all of us can easily relate to.

Tables are turned…what is one thing you’d like to say to your audience who might buy your book one day?

I think this book is especially important in these current times. Individuality is being tested like never before. We are all unique individuals and are entitled to our point of view. The individual life always matters. Take charge of your life and your destiny. That is what this book is intended to say. Think For Yourself.

Thank you for this interview, David. Good luck on your virtual book tour!

Thank you for the opportunity to discuss this book and I look forward to future projects.
