Chapter One: New Assignment

Raphael looked at Mikael as they appeared in the laboratory. “Are you sure this is where we are meant to be?” “This is where Ruach specified,” Mikael said. They walked around numerous lab benches filled with various chemicals, flasks with colorful liquids mixed with the use of magnetic stirrers, and some benches filled with microscopes and other equipment. Petri dishes were displayed next to the microscopes, apparently ready to be viewed by someone. Fume hoods lined the back wall; each had some type of experiment in progress. Some contained metric balances, others distillation apparatuses, with a few in use, and others were closed with their lights on, but vacant of activity for now. “And what does Lucifer have to do with this place?” Raphael asked as he investigated one of the microscopes briefly and then looked around at various items displayed. “Ruach was not very specific,” Mikael said as he also turned, intrigued by the scientific apparatuses in use. Raphael turned and looked at Mikael, a grin forming. “Now, there’s a shocker.” Mikael smiled. “Apparently all will become clear as we explore this place. Remember, as this is the twenty-first century following Yahweh’s life on earth, there is much more technology for Lucifer to use in his diabolical schemes.” Raphael turned up the corner of his mouth. “Well, that definitely gives one something to contemplate.” He shook his head. “Seeing all he has devised over the centuries with very little technology, I don’t even want to think what he may be contemplating this time.” “Look at this side of the lab,” Mikael said as he walked beyond the lab benches to what looked like three padded benches with a monitor at the head of each. “Looks like something one would see in some type of infirmary.” Raphael nodded. “Yes, it does seem out of place considering the rest of the room.” He turned in a three-sixty. “Where is everyone, anyway? Should we look elsewhere, or stay here?” Mikael shrugged. “Ruach was not too specific. He just said to observe.” “And we haven’t encountered Lucifer himself yet either. Seems as though we’re on a different type of mission this time.” At that moment the door opened, and two individuals entered the lab. One was carrying a beagle.
