Pump Up Your Book Tour Host Spotlight: Girls Just Reading

Julie Caldwell Because we value our blog hosts, Pump Up Your Book is now putting the shoe on the other foot and interviewing them instead of having them interview us.  We are now offering our readers a chance to get to know our blog hosts and what better way than a personal interview?

Today, Pump Up Your Book is proud to spotlight Girls Just Reading, a book blog run by Grayslake, Illionois, blogger Julie Caldwell.

Q: Thank you for this interview, Julie.  Can you tell us what is your blog’s main focus?

Three girls reading and reviewing books from fiction genres that we are interested in, namely, African-American Fiction, Chick-Lit, Crime, Contemporary, Food Lit, and Young-Adult Fiction.  Essentially it’s a blog of a bunch of book reviews, movie reviews of books that were made into movies, and random literary thoughts.

Q: How long have you been blogging?  Is this your first blog and your only blog?

Since August 2007. This is my only blog.

Q: How often do you blog?

It varies. I really do try to get one book review up per week. Sometimes it’s more if we have a giveaway going on.

Q: Why did you choose to name your blog, “Girls Just Reading”?

Well since it’s 3 of us, the founder, Lisa decided on the name. I have to say, I love it. Plus it’s a play on how we met. That’s a long story.

Q: How do you promote your blog?

All of us use Library Thing to keep track of our books and we always post our reviews there as well.  We’re also on Twitter and Facebook.  Recently, one of my reviews was quoted on a book jacket blurb and Girls Just Reading was just mentioned in Rachelle Rogers Knight’s ‘Read, Remember, Recommend: A Reading Journal for Book Lovers’, so that helps!

Q: What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Work a full-time job and raise 2 kids (4.5, 2) while trying to stay sane.

Q: What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I like getting to know other readers. In my close knit circle of un-virtual friends there are not a lot of readers, so it helps me to connect with those with whom I share the same addiction.

Thank you for this interview, Julie, and we’ll see you in the blogosphere!
