Thank you for this interview, DCS. Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

A: I constantly wrote stories as a child.  One of the first things I remember writing is a story about a boy and his talking horse that went around solving crimes.  Great stuff. Synarchy Book 1 was my first published piece.

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

A: Marketing is the most frustrating for me, because it’s real a process of trial and error. You can put in a lot of effort and not see results right away. The most rewarding has been the feedback from fans, I love hearing all the different reactions to the books.

DCS BOOK COVER_v5 Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life?  Do you have support?

A: I’m single so it makes it easy. I’ve also got a great support network with my friends and family.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?  Where do you like to vacation?  Can you tell us briefly about this?

A: I’m always writing! Even when I’m not writing books, I’m role-playing, which is great fun too. When I actually do leave the house I love going to listen to the brass bands, they’re really fantastic in New Orleans. I don’t vacation much, but when I do the first stop will be the Pyramids in Egypt.

If you could be anywhere in the world for one hour right now, where would that place be and why?

A: In a hammock, on a beach in the Caribbean. I am obsessed with owning a house in the islands one day.

Who is your biggest fan?

A: That’s tough, I’ve got a few people fighting for the biggest fan spot, so I can’t really single any individual out.

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

A: My office.

Do you have any pets?

A: I do, I have a nine year old Siberian husky named Angelus. He’s my buddy, great company and a big baby.

Tell us a secret no one else knows.

A: Well if I told you it wouldn’t be a secret would it? 🙂

What’s on your to do list today?

A: Pitching to radio shows, getting guests for my radio show, writing something for either book 3, or my upcoming webisode series I’m going to start called The Fallen.

Now I’ve got a couple of fun questions for you.  If Tom Hanks, in the movie Cast Away, unearthed a copy of your book, how would that help him find a way off the island?

A: It wouldn’t, but it might give him a few ideas on how to be in touch with his spiritual nature, which in turn might help get him off the island.

You have a chance to appear on the hit talent show for authors, American Book Idol, with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara Dioguardi and the newest addition, Ellen DeGeneres, to determine whether your book will make it to Hollywood and become a big screenplay where you’d make millions of dollars.  What would impress them more – your book cover, an excerpt or your author photo – and why?

A: An excerpt of the novel, because Synarchy is different. It’s not quite like anything else out there.

You just got word that your book has received the 2010 NY Times Bestselling Book Award and you have to attend the ceremony to give an acceptance speech.  Anyone who’s anyone will be there and it’s your shot for stardom.  What would you say and who would you thank?

A: Wow. Who would have thought! First, I have to thank the readers, my fans, for trusting me to take you into a fantastical world, and letting me hurt your brain a little. I want to thank my family, all of them, and my friends, you know who you are. I’ve got the best support group in the world. And to all the other self publishers out there, to all the dream creators and world builders, keep grinding out those fantastic stories.

I understand that you are touring with Pump Up Your Book Promotion in October/November via a virtual book tour.  Can you tell us all why you chose a virtual book tour to promote your book online?

A: I think doing a virtual book is the best way to reach a large audience over an extended period of time. It’s really very smart marketing and Pump Up your Books does a fantastic job managing author tours.

Thank you for this interview, DCS. Good luck on your virtual book tour!

A: Thanks for having me!
