Life Choices About Life Choices: Putting the Pieces Together

If life didn’t challenge us,how could we know how strong we are?

There is no such thing as life without struggle. No one comes out of a struggle the same as he or she was when it began. Everyone has to make choices between giving up or growing stronger.

Read the Excerpt!

From The Rainbow that Never Fades (chapter) by Lynette Chappell Even with all of the stress, we settled into the routine of the show. We knew what tomorrow would bring — generally — and for the most part my life was orderly. Then something happened that no one could have predicted. During one of the performances, Roy came within seconds of dying. I was upstairs in my dressing room waiting for my cue to go on. Instead, I heard screams of horror and came flying down the stairs to see what was going on. It was at that moment that all my training, all my discipline was put to the test. The only thing that mattered was Roy. Excerpt from Reinventing Myself (chapter) by Mike Levin: On September 11, 2001, after spending three months in solitary, I was taken to an outside cage to spend my one hour doing exercise. At approximately 9:00 a.m., I looked up toward the sky and observed a commercial airliner cruising at a very low altitude. Th e engine noise was tremendous. It was a beautiful day, nice and sunny. Moments later, a guard approached the recreational cages and instructed us to “cuff up,” which meant turn around and slip our wrists through the sliding portion of the steel door so the guard could handcuff us. He told us that a small private plane had crashed into the Twin Towers. We were immediately whisked into our cells. I remember looking out of the window of my cell toward Manhattan. I saw a huge dark cloud and at that point all hell broke loose. We learned that two commercial airliners had crashed into the Twin Towers. I could feel the panic in the air — the jail had been placed into a “lockdown” status. Exercept from Twelve Dollars (chapter) by Bea Goodwin I vividly remember the events leading up to that fearful drive home from the Las Vegas Club on that January 6, 1996. Two days earlier, my husband inadvertently inquired into an account that had contained a $10,000 gift from my father. Th e account was in my name. Th e bank teller just happened to access the wrong account. My husband called me at work concerned and said, “Hey. You know that money your dad gave you? The bank says the account is empty.” I did what any self-respecting gambler in the throes of their addiction would do. I lied.” Excerpt from Financial Freedom (chapter) by Becky Buckley If only I had planned my divorce as well as my wedding. Every detail for the wedding had been orchestrated perfectly — a wedding planner, a florist, a caterer, etc. — every expert I could think of to help me, because marriage is about love, and I wanted the special day to be wonderful. Somewhere in my daily life, I had never learned that divorce is about money. I really didn’t think a divorce would need any experts other than an attorney. In fact, I didn’t think about it at all.
