Thank you for this interview, Krista.  Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

A: The writing book came later in life. As a child I had the reading bug. Surrendered Balance is my fist published piece.

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

A: The most frustrating side of becoming a published author was deciding whether or not to self-publish or go with a traditional publishing house. I decided to self-publish and that was a learning experience, but a good one. The most rewarding side of becoming a self-published author is seeing the book in print as professionally done and in stores. Also, hearing from people that have read the book that it has helped them in their daily walk with Christ.

Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life?  Do you have support?

A: I am divorced with four children. I write when I have the time. My children range in age from 13 to 21 so they are very supportive of my writing.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?  Where do you like to vacation?  Can you tell us briefly about this?

A: I work full-time as an IT Manager and I raise my children with most of my time. Apart from that I am in ministry at my local church. So writing is kind of what I do for fun. I love to grow things in my garden, that’s another thing I do for fun. I like to vacation near the beach. I love to be near the ocean and moonlight sky.

If you could be anywhere in the world for one hour right now, where would that place be?

A: Israel

Who is your biggest fan?

A: I would say my children but that’s a given. My biggest fan apart from them my mother.

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

A: My favorite place to write at home is on the couch in my family room with using my laptop.

Do you have any pets?

A: Yes. I have two Chihuahuas, a long black long coat named Treasure and a white smooth coat name Papa

Tell us a secret no one else knows.

A: My biggest dream is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, to share the story of His love and sacrifice for humanity that can change lives. Some people have never heard the gospel and others, though they heard, heard it wrong and therefore have not believed in Him. I want to change that. More than I want to write I want to preach the gospel.

What’s on your to do list today?

A: Writing a devotional and going walking

Now I’ve got a couple of fun questions for you.  If Tom Hanks, in the movie Cast Away, unearthed a copy of your book, how would that help him find a way off the island?

A: I have never seen that movie, however I think my book could help anyone gain the encouragement needed not to give up hope while on an island.

You have a chance to appear on the hit talent show for authors, American Book Idol, with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara Dioguardi and the newest addition, Ellen DeGeneres, to determine whether your book will make it to Hollywood and become a big screenplay where you’d make millions of dollars.  What would impress them more – your book cover, an excerpt or your author photo – and why?

A: I think that an expert from my book would impress the judges most because anyone of them could identify with the fact that surrender brings balance to busy lives.

You just got word that your book has received the 2010 NY Times Bestselling Book Award and you have to attend the ceremony to give an acceptance speech.  Anyone who’s anyone will be there and it’s your shot for stardom.  What would you say and who would you thank?

A: I would say that my book Surrendered Balance can add value to the lives of everyone there and I would thank the Lord Jesus Christ.

I understand that you are touring with Pump Up Your Book Promotion in May.  Can you tell us all why you chose a virtual book tour to promote your book online?

A: I saw another author’s success using the virtual tour to introducing his book to various audiences and really liked the idea of getting more for less. I will always be able to refer back to the comments, reviews, and articles done for my book online. This is not so with the traditional book tour, it’s over when you walk out the door.

Thank you for this interview, Hermina. Good luck on your virtual book tour!
