Lucas Trent Thank you for this interview, Rick.  Can you tell us briefly what your latest book, “Guardian in magic”, is all about?

It is actually the first part of a series. It tells the story about a teenager that stumbles from a quite normal life into a wonderful world of mystery, conspiracy and magic, that had always been right before his eyes, hidden in plain sight. It tells a story about friendship and trust, and about the fact that things are not always as simple as they appear to be.

Can you tell us who or what was the inspiration behind your book?

I love fantasy stories and this one has been in my mind for quite a while. I can’t really tell you where my inspiration came from to put it in writing, other than perhaps all the people around bugging me about it, I just felt the urge to do it. And as a sidenote: I liked it.

Is this your first published book and if so, can you tell us your experiences in finding a publisher for it?

Yes it is. Finding a publisher is quite tricky if you try to find one that takes all the risk (and with it all the costs…) for you. That’s why I didn’t even bother looking for someone like that. I wanted to stay in full control and get everything the way I saw fit. With that in mind, and a little budget at hand, it was quite easy.

Where do you live and if I were coming to town, where would we go to talk books?

I live in Austria, which is a place with no Kangaroos by the way, so coming to town might prove to be a little tricky. I would go to a quiet place, so we could actually talk without having to yell. Good steak houses often have an atmosphere like that. *grin*

When you’re not writing, what do you do to relax and have fun?

Well, actually I write to relax and have fun. I also like roleplaying games, but not the ones online, the real ones with pen and paper, and good board games.

Do you make a living off your books or do you have another job?

I do have a normal job and a normal live. Writing books is sort of a hobby.

Do you have any words of inspiration from other writers who would like to be wearing your shoes?

*laugh* I don’t think so, not from book writers after all. I still have to earn my wings on that front.

What’s next for you?

Writing the sequel to “Guardian in Magic” of course. Everything else is written in the stars.

Thank you for this interview, Rick. Do you have any final words?

Thank you for the invitation. It was a pleasure talking to you.
