Pump Up Chats with Dr. Eric Osansky

Eric M. Osansky Dr. Eric Osansky is a chiropractic physician who was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease, and restored his health back to normal by following a natural thyroid treatment protocol. He has also helped many other people with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease, and is author of the book ”Natural Treatment Solutions for Hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease”.

While Dr. Osansky was a “traditional” chiropractor for 7 ½ years, focusing on conditions such as neck and back pain, after he was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease and experienced the benefits of following a natural treatment protocol, he began helping other people with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease, along with other thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions.

While Dr. Osansky encourages people with hyperthyroidism or Graves’ Disease to at least consider natural thyroid treatment methods, he does realize that there is a time and place for conventional medical treatment.  Plus, Dr. Osansky won’t hesitate to refer someone out if he feels as if they are not a good candidate for natural treatment methods.

Thank you for this interview, Dr. Osansky.  Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

A: Any writing I did as a child came in the form of a comic book!  Other than that I didn’t do much writing.  My first published piece was actually a book which showed other chiropractors how to attract patients who were afraid of going to a chiropractor.  So this is my very first healthcare publication.

Can you tell us about your latest book and why you wrote it?

ThyroidCover A: The book shows people with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease how a natural treatment protocol can help to restore their health back to normal.  It discusses what a hyperthyroid diet should consist of, certain lifestyle factors they need to modify (sleep, exercise, etc.), and certain nutritional supplements and herbs which can be important to the recovery process.

I also discuss why radioactive iodine treatment should usually be the last resort, whether or not natural treatment methods are safe during pregnancy and lactation, the impact of environmental toxins, and how someone with hyperthyroidism or Graves’ Disease can find a competent natural endocrine doctor.  The reason I wrote this book was because due to the great results I received upon following a natural treatment protocol after I was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease.

Can you tell us a bit more about hyperthyroidism and Grave’s Disease?

A: Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which an excessive amount of thyroid hormone is secreted by the thyroid gland.  Graves’ Disease is an autoimmune hyperthyroid condition.  Hyperthyroid conditions speed up the metabolism of the body, and thus will commonly lead to symptoms such as an increased heart rate, palpitations, weight loss, increased appetite, along with other symptoms.  Millions of people have these conditions, and it seems as if more and more people are developing hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease each year.

What makes radioactive iodine a bad option for patients?

A: Well, any treatment with the word “radioactive” in it should make you think twice as to whether it’s a safe treatment option.  But besides the fact that this treatment involves radiation, one needs to keep in mind the importance of the thyroid gland, as it affects every cell and tissue in the body.  As a result, one shouldn’t take obliteration of their thyroid gland lightly, and should do everything they can to preserve it.  Those who do choose radioactive iodine usually will need to take thyroid hormone for the rest of their life.  And of course RAI does nothing to address the underlying cause of the hyperthyroid condition.

Could you introduce us to some of the natural steps to treatment?

A: Perhaps the most important step is to eat well, as you want to eat mostly whole foods, drink plenty of purified water, and minimize the refined foods and sugars from your diet.  You also want to improve your stress handling skills, as stress is a big factor when it comes to the development of these conditions.  Getting sufficient sleep each night is very important, and reducing one’s exposure to environmental toxins also plays a role in the recovery process.  Of course taking certain nutritional supplements and herbs can help as well, although not everyone needs to take the same supplements and herbs, which is one of many reasons why someone should ideally consult with a competent healthcare professional, rather than try to self-treat their condition.

Is your goal to get rid of radioactive iodine as a treatment option?

A: No, because I don’t think that’s going to happen no matter how much I spread the word about natural treatment methods.  My goal is to show people that there is another option besides radioactive iodine treatment, and to make them understand that there is an underlying cause, and if the actual cause is addressed then there is a good chance of restoring their health back to normal.  Once again, they can always choose radioactive iodine if following a natural treatment protocol doesn’t work, but my overall goal is to encourage people to at least give natural treatment methods a try, which will in turn prevent a lot of people from having their thyroid gland obliterated unnecessarily.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

A: Well, many people with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease don’t know much about natural treatment methods, and so I’d like to invite everyone to visit my website www.GravesDiseaseBook.com, where they can find out more about how following a natural treatment protocol can restore their health back to normal, and help them to avoid radioactive iodine.  They can also check out my facebook page at www.facebook.com/NaturalHyperthyroidTreatment.

Thank you for this interview, Dr. Osansky. Good luck on your virtual book tour!

A: Thank you, as I had a great time and hope we have a chance to do this again in the future.
