The Interview

Thank you for this interview, Robert.  Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

A: Writing skills began with my to college thesis I had to produce.

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

A: Being hit up for extra cash by my self- publisher organization for every word I write.

Seeing the first copy of your novel actually publish in hard cover is to die for.

Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life?  Do you have support?

A: I am married for almost twenty-five years now. I am retired and my wife still works. I have no problem with time for writing. As long as dinner is ready when she gets home everything is good. My wife does not like my graphic imagination because she considers it too gory and in your face. She will not read my novels.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?  Where do you like to vacation?  Can you tell us briefly about this?

A:I like to fish and inventing new things. My favorite vacation location is Hawaii. I live in a small northern California town. My home is at an elevation of 3600 feet. We get a lot of snow. I like Hawaii for warmth.

If you could be anywhere in the world for one hour right now, where would that place be and why?

A: Hawaii.

Who is your biggest fan?

A: My biggest fan is my daughter.

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

A: In my office at my 27” IMAC screen.

Do you have any pets?

A: I have, or I should say, my wife has four cats.

Tell us a secret no one else knows.

A: I love dark chocolate.

What’s on your to do list today?

A: Go to the market, do some wash, get boat ready for fishing.

Now I’ve got a couple of fun questions for you.  If Tom Hanks, in the movie Cast Away, unearthed a copy of your book, how would that help him find a way off the island?

A: He could use some of the blank pages to start a signal fire!

You have a chance to appear on the hit talent show for authors, American Book Idol, with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara Dioguardi and the newest addition, Ellen DeGeneres, to determine whether your book will make it to Hollywood and become a big screenplay where you’d make millions of dollars.  What would impress them more – your book cover, an excerpt or your author photo – and why?

A:  A chapter in my book discussing several states leaving the Union and starting a new republic with limited government, low taxes etc.

You just got word that your book has received the 2010 NY Times Bestselling Book Award and you have to attend the ceremony to give an acceptance speech.  Anyone who’s anyone will be there and it’s your shot for stardom.  What would you say and who would you thank?

A: I would say that I finally found my target book audience and they are all here tonight. Please leave you email addresses so I can send you notice of my next novel. Thanks to all the authors that inspired me. John Sanford, Dean Koontz, James Patterson and Mark Twain.

I understand that you are touring with Pump Up Your Book via a virtual book tour.  Can you tell us all why you chose a virtual book tour to promote your book online?

A: The tour will begin in February 2012. I saw some of their other tours and was very impressed. It appears to me a great marketing tool.

Thank you for this interview, Robert. Good luck on your virtual book tour!
