Q: Can you tell us why you wrote your book?

The desire to help other women, just like me. I used to be a stressed-out high-achiever who was often overworked, over-scheduled and overwhelmed. But I learned how to slow down and start enjoying life again.  I would love to help other women do the same.  There really are natural ways to beat stress, regain balance, and find joy & inner peace.

Q: Which part of the book was the hardest to write?

The hardest part to write was the book description/book summary.  Narrowing down the main jest of the book in just a few paragraphs was hard.

Q: Does your book have an underlying message that readers should know about?

The underlying message is that to live a stress-free happy life, it’s vitally important to be balanced, in every aspect of our lives, at work, at home and at play!  My life use to feel like a pressure cooker. And I used to think that I was the only woman in the world in that predicament. But I am FAR from alone. Women today are under a lot of pressure. We have more choices and more opportunities than our mothers and grandmothers did. We can have anything and everything we want, as long as we’re willing to work for it.  But we must not lose sight of what is most important in life.  I feel confident that my self-help stress solutions book series will help women around the globe do just that.

Q: Do you remember when the writing bug hit?

I have been writing for about 3 years, but more seriously for the last 2 years.  Writing is one thing, but reaching your target market is another.   I’ve recently learned about the tremendous reach and power of online marketing, and that’s when I decided to write books for kindle and to use online marketing methods to reach women everywhere who are looking for practical and effective ways to reduce the stress in their lives and live happier, more fulfilling lives every day.

Q: Besides books, what else do you write?  Do you write for publications?

I am a regular guest blogger/contributor for two very popular online women magazines: 1) Mom-It-Forward  (http://momitforward.com/?s=darlene+josaphe ) and 2) Dr. Mommy & friends (http://drmommyonline.com/author/darlenej ).  I write about balance, stress and stress management, DIY topics, and topics of interest to women.

Q: Do you have a writing tip you’d like to share?

I like to write as if I am speaking to a good friend cross the table, sipping on a cup of chamomile tea, discussing life’s challenges and the practical solutions that work.  Women everywhere face similar challenges, at home and at work, and when I write, I am speaking to women just like me, women who could be my friends, or my sister or my mother.  Reaching out to women based on your common challenges and stressors can touch lives positively and lead to building mutually beneficial relationships across cyberspace.  That is my ultimate goal.

Q:  Would you like to tell us about your home life?  Where you live?  Family?  Pets?

I could be called a world citizen.  I was brought up on a small island in the Caribbean, where family, spiritual values, sustainable living, and a simple way of life were the top priorities, but I studied, lived and worked in the USA and in Europe for many years.  I currently travel often between the Caribbean, the USA and Europe.  My favorite pets are tropical fish and birds, since they are low maintenance.  My favorite hobby is gardening.  I enjoy backyard camping with the kids too.

Q:  Can you tell us a little about your childhood?

I was born a small island in the Caribbean, and I have 4 brothers and one sister.  However, as part of a large extended family, spiritual values, sustainable living, and a simple way of life were always of utmost important.  Life has changed so drastically since then, and with that comes stress, depression and other vices.  Reflecting on my humble upbringing helps me to regain the perspective and focus needed to live a more stress free life, and I try to convey that in my writing and in all my books in the self-help stress relief book series.

Q: Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

My favorite place to write from at home is my backyard retreat, which I created for my own rest and relaxation.  Being outdoors has a soothing and relaxing effect on the mind, body and spirit, as you listen to the birds chirp, watch the butterflies, or indulge in the beauty of the moonlight.  Nature provides some of the best and most effective stress relievers…for FREE!  It’s inspiring.

Q: What do you do to get away from it all?

I spend lots of time with my family & friends, and I also enjoy volunteering time to offer free bible studies.  I also enjoy baking, watching Golden Girl re-runs & cartoons, as well as gardening.

Q: What was the first thing you did as far as promoting your book?

I did FREE book promotion days on Amazon, where the book can be offered FREE of charge via Amazon.com.  I still do free book promotions days, and I announce the Free days to members of my stress management club (http://natural-stress-relief-women.com/stressmanagementfanclub/ ).  I also promote the books via social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and have created book trailers for viewing on Youtube.

Q: Are you familiar with the social networks and do you actively participate?

Absolutely! One of my primary activities is participating on social networks.  You will find me on all the major social media platforms, such as facebook, twitter, pinterest, google+, youtube, and linked in. People are using every online and mobile method conceivable to access information, and as a writer I need to be ready to provide information and engage readers via those methods and channels.

Q: How do you think book promotion has changed over the years?

Women are online in LARGE numbers, looking for information and shopping.  So promotion has gone more and more virtual over the years.   If you are not promoting using social networks and other online channels, then you may be missing a large segment of your potential market.

Q: What is the most frustrating part of being an author?

Finding the time to do write a book, from start to finish!  Life is busy and demanding, and we rush about from one obligation to the next, and some folks even rush from one crisis to the next.  Writing requires time and dedication, which are often in short supply and can be challenging, but not impossible.  Your passion and inspiration to reach out and help others with your message is a major driving force and motivation to stay focused, and helps you set priorities where necessary to get your writing done, from start to finish!  If the motivation is strong enough, you find a way to overcome any challenge.

Q: What is the most rewarding?

Reading positive book reviews and customer feedback that express how the book has impacted someone positively and helped them to cope with or overcome the crippling burden of stress, regain balance, joy, and proper perspective.  Often times we get overwhelmed by life’s trials and challenges, and a few practical tips and pointers may be all that is needed to regain perspective.  Truth is, the BEST things in life are actually free!  They are all things that money cannot buy…such as good health, true friends, a loving family, a happy home, and a close relationship with God.  Focusing on those things is what brings true happiness, contentment and the ultimate in stress relief.
